Cafe 314 - Sandy Bay

Image
UGH!  I've been sick and staying home. Cafe 314 is on the main road in Sandy Bay.  Cute little cafe on the second floor of the building with a big sign out front that you can't miss.  It's mostly a coffee shop with some pastries including scones, brownies and more.  They do have little pizzas for under $4 each.  We split a pizza and a brownie, Greg had a fancy mocha.  It was good and we will probably go back to try the homemade bagels.

Ginger's in West End

Image
I had heard good things about Ginger's on different sites so I was anxious to try it today.  It's a little hard to find, you have to walk through some other yards to get to it, it's on  a point in West End.  There are signs pointing the way on the main road.   We tried the Blackened Fish Tacos and a Nacho plate.  Each were $10.  The nachos were the best I've had on this island so far.  Tons of cheese (my favorite part!) and a wide variety of toppings.  Very delicious and filling.  Greg had the fish tacos, he said they were the best he'd had also.  Some places here skimp on toppings on their tacos, but not this place.  They tacos came with a side of homemade tortilla chips and salsa. I forgot to take a picture of the great view of the Bay from the seating area.

Vacation Rentals in Sandy Bay

Image
Here I am back into business again.  I'm starting Vacation Rentals in Roatan!  So I have neglected my blog last week while I was getting the houses ready for rental.  My friends from Hawaii bought this property.  It has 2 houses that are each one bedroom/one bathroom.  We got Chloe's Cabana ready to rent first.  It's on Airbnb.   https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/51433946?adults=2&children=2&check_in=2021-09-01&check_out=2021-09-08&translate_ugc=false&federated_search_id=769f9c09-9b8d-40a9-be1b-6edbf86f2076&source_impression_id=p3_1628567028_AlVa3%2BhNYcJycojK&guests=1 We named the two houses after their dogs - so we have Chloe's Cabana and Truman's Retreat.  I only have one listed so far on Airbnb. It's really cute.  It has a large front patio that is fully screened and has room for a hammock.  Then it has two sets of front doors, kitchen, bedroom with a brand new queen mattress, bathroom with shower an...

Hilltop View Bar & Grill

Image
Drove out east again and stopped at the Hilltop - I guess Roatan has a fly season and July was it.  The Hilltop is open air seating and the flies were terrible.  We sat down and the guy that brought us the menus was the same one that was our waiter and cook. The menu was very limited.  There was one other couple there at the restaurant.  It took 40 minutes to get our food.  I ordered a hamburger and french fries.  The burger was good.  Greg ordered the fried fish plate.  It was a whole fish - that always grosses me out.  I'm definitely not a vegetarian, but I don't like it when my food has a head on it.  That came with fried plantains and salad with a spicy dressing.  Wasn't happy when I got the bill and saw that our cokes were $3.60 when most places charge us $1.  Don't think we'll be going back.

Happy Harry's Hideaway - West End

Image
I had heard a lot of good reviews about this place so we thought we better try it.  They definitely live up to the "Happy" part of the name.  I've never ever been to a restaurant this friendly.  Every single employee we walked past greeted us, made conversation or just encouraged us to enjoy the place.  It was refreshing. The service was excellent.    I ordered the fish fingers plate after making sure it was local fish - Snapper.  Greg ordered the shrimp tacos that came with Pico de gallo and two other sauces.  I had them change one of the shrimp tacos to chicken so I could try it.  It was good.  My fish and french fries were good, the tartar sauce was delicious and I had to ask for more because I ate too much of it. lol If you see advertisements of people jumping on those big inflatable things, they have one right in front of us.  Plus they have swings over the water and hammocks.   Next time we'll have to come back...

Jonesville

Image
I made a mistake.  On m June 18, 2021 post I put Jonesville, when it was actually Jonesville Point.  Jonesville is just across the little Bight (inlet) from Jonesville Point.  It's a little bigger town, but not much.  It does have a lot of large fishing boats and is the starting point for taking a small boat trip through the mangrove trees.

Rain

Image
You know in the old cartoons when it was going to rain, you saw the cloud and it rained in that one same spot.  Well living in Hawaii - we saw that a lot.  Here it's almost the same, except you see the clouds move in quickly and dump just as fast.  The picture below is from our balcony, we saw the rain coming in from the east and moving towards us and about 5 minutes later we had rain so hard we couldn't even see the ocean.  I call them cartoon clouds.  (not very scientific, but accurate. )
