Opening a Bank account in Roatan
This was a challenge, a week ago we went to the only bank that allows foreigners to open a bank account which is Davivienda. We waited for over an hour to talk to the only customer service rep there, to find out that you need a local phone number.
Today we went back when it wasn't busy. We only had to wait 15 minutes.
You open two accounts - one in US dollars and one in Honduran dollars called Limpuras.
Here is what you need to open a bank account:
*Cash in both USD and HNL
*An Active local phone number - one phone number per person. Since we only had gotten one phone number we opened the account under Greg and not both of us.
*Two people here in Roatan that can vouch for you and their phone numbers.
*Your current - or last employer if you are retired, their address and phone number
*Most importantly your passport.
They won't help you if you don't have all that information, so now we have an account.
This is a great blog!
