Shipping Boxes to Roatan

YEAH!!! My boxes finally arrived today.  What a challenge!  People are asking for my mailing address.  I'm not giving it out, not because I don't want to receive mail, it's a hassle here.  I shipped 8 boxes from Kona Hawaii to Roatan, the average weight was about 40 lbs per box.  

My Realtor suggested I use Global Consolidation.  Other people here recommend DIP, either way, the boxes are in the same process.  You can use any method to ship them to a consolidator in Miami Florida.  I used UPS because the line at the Post Office on the 15th of April was too long.  So I'm sure I paid more than I should have, but the 8 boxes total was $977.  I recommend the heavy duty tubs because I used cardboard boxes and they didn't hold up to the weight very well.  UPS charges extra for tubs, but now that I have opened everything tubs would have been sturdier.  So I ship it to Miami, then Global Consolidators puts it on a boat to Roatan, it goes through customs first on the mainland, that part of the journey cost me an additional $409.50USD.  Then we picked up our boxes today from the local shipping company that charged me an additional $30.40 for customs.  So the grand total was $1416.90 for 8 boxes.  

Thankfully I got all 8 boxes back and they were all still sealed, except one side was coming apart, but I didn't lose anything.  I few glass things that I thought I had well padded broke.  The clothes I had packed all had a funny smell to them and a couple of boxes look like someone spilled a cup of coffee on top of them.

Lawson Rock Deli and Market - Sandy Bay

 Sandy Bay takes up a lot of area on the west side of the island.  Part of that includes the exclusive subdivision of Lawson Rock.  They have a condo building with a deli/market inside.  We've driven past hundreds of times and finally decided to check it out.  It's a cute little deli that serves breakfast and lunch.  They also sell meats and cheeses like an old fashioned deli, plus gifts! We ordered the lunch specials.  One Lasagna plate with salad and the other was their chicken & rice dish that was served with a side of coleslaw (odd combination).  Both were delicious!  The lasagna was $10 and the chicken/rice was $7.20.   We'll be back!

Eldon's Grocery Store

 Having just moved into the condo and there is not a single piece of food in the condo we definitely needed to go to the grocery store.  According to what I've read there are two Eldon Grocery stores and another grocery store on the island.  Thankfully one of the Eldon's is only 2 blocks from our condo.  We walked there and took a taxi back with all our food.   We spent a total of $175.  The prices aren't too bad if you stick to their generic brands.  The most expensive thing we bought was a 12 pack of Diet Coke for a little over $6.  Included in the $175 was milk, cheese, bacon, sausages, bagels, cream cheese, flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt and pepper, ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, snacks, some chips, bread, peanutbutter, jam, and a few other things.  It's interesting and I should have taken some pictures - but their flour and sugars come in clear bags.  The bread is square! Roatan Yacht Club - French Harbor

 The Yacht club opened up a few months ago from Covid.  We met a new friend there for lunch.  It's a little upper class than we usually try.  They served water in goblets.  Greg ordered the Tequila shrimp tacos and I ordered the pasta fettucine.  Greg said his was good, you get a large plate with 4 little tacos, my pasta was good, but very oily.  When I was done there was at least a 1/4 inch of oil on the bottom of the dish.  This won't make it to the top of our list.
