El Pulpo - Jackson Plaza, French Harbor

Ok, this is for John:  We tried a very local place here in town.  It's reopened recently and our realtor said they had excellent fish soup,  It's been popular at lunch time so we tried it.  They don't have menus, they have a chalkboard which is not used, no prices, nothing.  We sit down at a table and the waitress comes up to us and I try to ask for menus and she gives me a blank stare.  Then she goes to her manager who speaks English and she comes over and says "no menus".  I ask for her specials and it's the fish soup and a dish with a choice of steak or chicken.  I figure less chance of getting sick with the beef over the chicken. lol

After about 15 minutes Greg gets his soup, comes with rice and two corn tortillas.  The soup is a mix of seafood, there is shrimp, lobster and a small fish head (gross).  I tasted the soup broth, it had good flavor. There were also large chunks of potatoes that could have been cut a little smaller. Greg liked the soup.  My plate came out about 5 minutes later.  It had beef strips that had a really good seasoning, a little curry flavor plus some other seasoning, rice and beans, a couple of pieces of cooked potato with butter and a little salad with a honey mustard dressing, plus a bunch of fried plantains which are the staple around here.  After eating we went to the counter to pay.  The total was almost $20 with no explanation of what anything cost.  It was a fair price, but how are we to know?  My guess they charge the regulars less and more for the gringos.  It happens around here, especially when there are no prices any where.
