Hangover Hut - West Bay

Image
Hangover hut is in the parking lot next to La Placita.  It has a big Canadian flag out front.  We decided to try it finally.  So I was born in Canada, but Poutine wasn't really a thing when I was there, it didn't become popular until later.  Most of my family lives in Canada and I had never tried Poutine.  They had it on the menu so I had to try it.  We split the hamburger and chose onion rings as a side ($14 + 2 for onion rings) and a plate of Poutine ($8).  The burger was delicious!!!  Onion rings were too salty but good.   OK......  I hope I don't disappoint all my Canadian friends and family, but I did not like Poutine.  Not a fan of all that gravy covering my french fries.  We will definitely go back - they have Euchre games 2 days a week. lol  But not eating the Poutine.

Ipanema - West End

Here is another new restaurant over the water.  Ipanema recently opened, the building contains them on the lower floor and then Maxim is on the 2nd floor.  I saw that they had nothing but 5 star reviews on google so we tried them for lunch. The server was very sweet and checked in with us frequently.  I ordered the fish fingers ($13) and Greg ordered the tacos ($7 for 3).  Both were good, the chicken meat on the tacos was the best we've had, it wasn't dried out, but cooked well and juicy.  The fish was good - but I still like the Conch Fritter place better and less expensive.

Roatan Famous Conch Fritters - Dixon Cove/Brick Bay

The sign is on the main road, but I could never figure out where the restaurant was located until I drove behind the building in front and there it was!  Cute little restaurant.  It's an outdoor location right on the water.  You have a side view of the harbor and a great view of the bay.   Of course we had to try the fitters, so Greg ordered the Fritter plate ($10) and I ordered the fish finger plate ($9).  The fritter plate came with 6 fritters, plantains and pico de gallo.  We substituted french fries with plantains.  The fish plate came with 5 pieces of fish, coleslaw and french fries.  That was the best battered fish I have had on the island.  The batter was very flakey and fish was cooked perfectly.  The food was soooo good that I was surprised when we arrived at 11:45 and were the only people eating.  No one else showed up at lunch time.  It might have something to do with $3 for a soda.  We will definitely go back. If we had our swimsuits, they even have a pool you can use

The Cove in Palmetto Bay

Image
oops, I went there in February for the first time and thought I posted this.  We went back again last week. Palmetto Bay is a quiet gated community on the north side of the island.  We are in the process of purchasing a lot to build a house on.  The cost of building a house here is about $100 a square foot for a wood house and a little more for a concrete house.  I will be blogging about house building on this site starting next week. Palmetto Bay has a restaurant called the Cove, a dive shop and a swimming pool. The restaurant has delicious food, but a little more than we like to pay for food (what can I say, we're cheap!) The first time I ordered something and they were out - I think it was the pulled pork so I got a hamburger instead, Greg had the fish dish.  The second time we went for dinner and I ordered the Sea Bass and it came with a baked potato and steamed veggies.  Greg ordered the curry chicken and rice.  Both dishes were delicious.  The curry dish had a little heat to
