Fresh Bakery and Cafe

Image
Oops, didn't realize it's been a whole year since I've posted last.   Well we we wanted to go to The Wok, but they didn't open until 12 and it was 11:20, so I didn't want to wait 40 minutes - we walked next door to the bakery to see if they offered anything for lunch.  They had a large lunch menu including soups, salads, burgers and salads.   The burger didn't mention french fries and since it was a bakery, I wasn't expecting big portions, so Greg ordered the burger and I ordered the pesto pasta salad and we were going to split each item.  Well we get our food and the burger is huge and it came with french fries, so we split his lunch and took mine home to eat for dinner.  Of course I had to nibble on the pasta first, it was delicious.

Bad Ass Java - West End

Image
This is a great place for all you coffee lovers.  They have a bunch of different coffee drinks and they sell their own roasted coffee for $16 a lb.    I don't drink coffee so the only reason we tried this place is Greg won a free lunch there.  He received a drink, sandwich and dessert from a radio contest.  Funny thing about the sandwich  - they only have 1 Yes that's right - 1 (ONE) sandwich.  It's a Panini and you have your choice of 1 meat and one cheese for $8.  You can add on extra meat for another $2 - I would recommend this.  The sandwich comes with meat, cheese and a mayo/pesto sauce.  That's it.  No lettuce, tomatoes or anything else. Greg said his iced coffee was good. Here is our Panini Sandwiches - we both ordered bacon: They have several different desserts from Carrot Cake, brownies and their homemade icecream.  They have 7 different flavors.  I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but they have a "Family Brownie Sundae" for $25.  I had to ask..

Trico's in Jonesville Point

Image
Trico's Bar & Grill is part of a Marina in Jonesville Pt.  To find it - follow the signs to Czech Village just past Bella's place east of French Harbor.  Take the 2nd gate and head down the hill, it's a little tricky.  Then there are the stairs!  Lots of stairs to get down to the restaurant which is on the Bight. The food was good,, but for me not good enough for the drive, if you are already in the neighborhood, I definitely recommend it.  We ordered the onion rings and split the burger plate.  The salad was someone else's, but it looked good.  The scenery was great!

Bean Crazy at Dolphin Plaza near the Airport

Image
So Bean Crazy has moved from inside Serano's to the new Dolphin Plaza which opened a few months ago.  The plaza has a wide variety of shops including a Car dealership - first one on the island. They have hung banners over the road announcing they have a buffet.  We were curious so we stopped for lunch.  It's not the "All you can Eat" buffet that comes to mind, but rather more like Panda Express, you pick one meat dish and 2 sides.  They had pork or chicken today.  Greg and I both ordered the pork, then the sides were:  rice, salad, garbanzo bean salad, steamed veggies and a ceviche meets pico de gallo side.  Plus included is a juice, there were five to choose from, I went safe and picked passion fruit.  Everything was delicious and the best thing - it was $5 per person.  That's less expensive than Wendy's meal!!!

Roberto's Burritos in West End

Image
We've driven past this cute little building several times, but finally made  a point to stop in and check it out.  The building used to be a Meat market but now they serve tacos and burritos.  I had heard that they had large portions, so we split something, decided to order the biggest burrito on the menu. lol  It's the Carnita,( $12)  it had steak, chicken, rice and beans and a few other ingredients.  We also ordered a side of chips and salsa ($2).  The brought out the chips and salsa first.  The salsa was great, just a little spicy, but not enough that I couldn't eat it (I'm a wimp with spicy foods. )  Then before we had made a dent in the chips, here come our burrito.  I took pictures of both, but had to add my Pepsi in for a size reference.  The burrito was huge, bigger than my forearm.  Glad we split it.  Everything was delicious, but next time I might just stop in for their dessert.  It's chips with sugar and cinnamon, chocolate syrup and whip cream.  Sounds

Kabana 101

Sorry everyone, I didn't realize it's been 6 months from my last post.  Shame on me.  I'll try to do better. I stopped at a little cafe off the road from Coxen Hole to Flowers Bay.  It's a cute little place with outdoor seating.  I was very surprised at the size of their menu.  They had a lot of options.  I chose the nachos and my friend Mellie ordered the BBQ Wings. My nachos were good.  You have a choice of meat, I picked steak since it was the same price as chicken.  There was cheese, steak, onions, tomatoes, avocado and their special white garlic aioli sauce.  It had a great flavor to it.   Mellie wasn't crazy about the bbq sauce, but I liked it, I had a sample of her wings.   My friend Mellie is starting her own cleaning business and I'm trying to help her.

Al Paso - La Placita - West Bay

Image
We went to Al Paso for lunch.  Another little food stand in the La Placita plaza near the beach.  They had menus with little pictures of the food.  We ordered the Pupusas with cheese - comes with 2 and some coleslaw and a spicy pickled coleslaw.  We also ordered their "Mixed Plate" It came with Chorizo and a choice of pork or steak and we chose the steak, refried beans, the same coleslaw type thing as the Pupusas and a pile of fried plantains.  Every restaurant on the island serves plantains in one form or another.  These were pretty good, they sprinkled them with chili powder and then a cream sauce on top.
