Totally Tacos - West Bay

Image
We tried a little taco stand tucked behind the West Bay Mall.  It's actually attached to a condo complex.  They were the best tacos I've had on this island.  They were bigger and more stuff than others.  The prices were good too.  I had the Americano Tacos - they had lettuce, but also added cabbage.   Greg had their firecracker shrimp and fried fish tacos.  His were 3 for $10 and mine were 3 for $8.  You have a choice of 2 tacos for less or 3, most taco places here the tacos you can eat in 2 bites, if I had known these were bigger I would have ordered 2.  I could barely finish my 3 tacos.  We will definitely be back!!!

Nona's Restobar - West End

If you want a good deal then this is the place.  They have $5 specials.  I had 3 tacos and Greg had the wings (8) and french fries.  Mine came with a drink.  We went at 5pm and the no-see-ums were terrible.  I had to run out and get bug spray.  The wings had a lot of meat on them.  The tacos were steak with pico de gallo and onons on them.

Arlyn's - West Bay in La Placita

Image
Disappointing!  Today we went with some friends to La Placita which is a little tourist area behind Bananarama with about 5 restaurants, icecream and coffee shop.  We have tried about 3 of the places here (see other posts) and this was #4.  Our friends speak Spanish, which is a good thing because when you go to pay, they charge one rate for tourists and a lower price for locals.  I ordered the grilled fish plate and Greg had the fried chicken plate.  Both looked pretty much the same except for the meat.  I forgot to take a picture of the chicken.  We went up to the window to order.  The choice for drinks was something that looked like Hawaiian punch, so I went down the block to the little store in the plaza and bought two sodas.  Came back and turns out there was no rush.  It took them 45 minutes before our food came out and that was after our friend called the owner of the restaurant on the phone to complain.  Mean while ther...

Francelia - Dixon Cove

We have driven past this place a few times and thought we would try it for lunch.  What a great idea that was.  Delicious food.  I'm still stuffed 5 hours later.  I ordered the Tacos Birrio - beef tacos.  They were $5 and I got a plate with 4 tacos, pico de gallo and another sauce to dip them in.  Greg ordered the shrimp plate.  He had a choice of deep fried or grilled and picked he deep fried.  It came with fried potatoes (french fries) and a side salad - $10.   While we were eating another customer ordered the ceviche.  It came to the table flaming so I had to take a picture.   They are only  open 4 days a week and according to the menu we are definitely coming back on Tuesday for the Chicken with pesto pasta.

Blue Roatan - West Bay

This is a little fancier restaurant then we normally go to, but if you want  a good meal with  a view, try this place.  I should have taken more pictures of the grounds, they were beautiful and had a cute little sitting area with a dip pool (size of a hot tub but cooler water.)  We owed a couple a lunch and they wanted to try this place.  So four of the least expensive items on the menu and 4 beverages came to $120.00 plus tip!  The menu didn't have your ordinary items on it.  The hamburger had bleu cheese,  They had a lobster sandwich, steak prices started at $30 on up.  I ordered the grilled snapper and it came with a choice of 2 sides.  I chose the salad and rice and beans.  The salad dressing was a little spicier than I eat, but managed to eat it.  The rice and beans were delicious.  The fish was really good but a little salty so I asked for some tarter sauce, which they didn't have but they had a pomegranate sau...

Hangover Hut - West Bay

Image
Hangover hut is in the parking lot next to La Placita.  It has a big Canadian flag out front.  We decided to try it finally.  So I was born in Canada, but Poutine wasn't really a thing when I was there, it didn't become popular until later.  Most of my family lives in Canada and I had never tried Poutine.  They had it on the menu so I had to try it.  We split the hamburger and chose onion rings as a side ($14 + 2 for onion rings) and a plate of Poutine ($8).  The burger was delicious!!!  Onion rings were too salty but good.   OK......  I hope I don't disappoint all my Canadian friends and family, but I did not like Poutine.  Not a fan of all that gravy covering my french fries.  We will definitely go back - they have Euchre games 2 days a week. lol  But not eating the Poutine.                                       ...

Ipanema - West End

Image
Here is another new restaurant over the water.  Ipanema recently opened, the building contains them on the lower floor and then Maxim is on the 2nd floor.  I saw that they had nothing but 5 star reviews on google so we tried them for lunch. The server was very sweet and checked in with us frequently.  I ordered the fish fingers ($13) and Greg ordered the tacos ($7 for 3).  Both were good, the chicken meat on the tacos was the best we've had, it wasn't dried out, but cooked well and juicy.  The fish was good - but I still like the Conch Fritter place better and less expensive.
