Trico's in Jonesville Point

Image
Trico's Bar & Grill is part of a Marina in Jonesville Pt.  To find it - follow the signs to Czech Village just past Bella's place east of French Harbor.  Take the 2nd gate and head down the hill, it's a little tricky.  Then there are the stairs!  Lots of stairs to get down to the restaurant which is on the Bight. The food was good,, but for me not good enough for the drive, if you are already in the neighborhood, I definitely recommend it.  We ordered the onion rings and split the burger plate.  The salad was someone else's, but it looked good.  The scenery was great!

Bean Crazy at Dolphin Plaza near the Airport

Image
So Bean Crazy has moved from inside Serano's to the new Dolphin Plaza which opened a few months ago.  The plaza has a wide variety of shops including a Car dealership - first one on the island. They have hung banners over the road announcing they have a buffet.  We were curious so we stopped for lunch.  It's not the "All you can Eat" buffet that comes to mind, but rather more like Panda Express, you pick one meat dish and 2 sides.  They had pork or chicken today.  Greg and I both ordered the pork, then the sides were:  rice, salad, garbanzo bean salad, steamed veggies and a ceviche meets pico de gallo side.  Plus included is a juice, there were five to choose from, I went safe and picked passion fruit.  Everything was delicious and the best thing - it was $5 per person.  That's less expensive than Wendy's meal!!!                                    ...

Roberto's Burritos in West End

Image
We've driven past this cute little building several times, but finally made  a point to stop in and check it out.  The building used to be a Meat market but now they serve tacos and burritos.  I had heard that they had large portions, so we split something, decided to order the biggest burrito on the menu. lol  It's the Carnita,( $12)  it had steak, chicken, rice and beans and a few other ingredients.  We also ordered a side of chips and salsa ($2).  The brought out the chips and salsa first.  The salsa was great, just a little spicy, but not enough that I couldn't eat it (I'm a wimp with spicy foods. )  Then before we had made a dent in the chips, here come our burrito.  I took pictures of both, but had to add my Pepsi in for a size reference.  The burrito was huge, bigger than my forearm.  Glad we split it.  Everything was delicious, but next time I might just stop in for their dessert.  It's chips with sugar ...

Kabana 101

Sorry everyone, I didn't realize it's been 6 months from my last post.  Shame on me.  I'll try to do better. I stopped at a little cafe off the road from Coxen Hole to Flowers Bay.  It's a cute little place with outdoor seating.  I was very surprised at the size of their menu.  They had a lot of options.  I chose the nachos and my friend Mellie ordered the BBQ Wings. My nachos were good.  You have a choice of meat, I picked steak since it was the same price as chicken.  There was cheese, steak, onions, tomatoes, avocado and their special white garlic aioli sauce.  It had a great flavor to it.   Mellie wasn't crazy about the bbq sauce, but I liked it, I had a sample of her wings.   My friend Mellie is starting her own cleaning business and I'm trying to help her.

Al Paso - La Placita - West Bay

Image
We went to Al Paso for lunch.  Another little food stand in the La Placita plaza near the beach.  They had menus with little pictures of the food.  We ordered the Pupusas with cheese - comes with 2 and some coleslaw and a spicy pickled coleslaw.  We also ordered their "Mixed Plate" It came with Chorizo and a choice of pork or steak and we chose the steak, refried beans, the same coleslaw type thing as the Pupusas and a pile of fried plantains.  Every restaurant on the island serves plantains in one form or another.  These were pretty good, they sprinkled them with chili powder and then a cream sauce on top.

Totally Tacos - West Bay

Image
We tried a little taco stand tucked behind the West Bay Mall.  It's actually attached to a condo complex.  They were the best tacos I've had on this island.  They were bigger and more stuff than others.  The prices were good too.  I had the Americano Tacos - they had lettuce, but also added cabbage.   Greg had their firecracker shrimp and fried fish tacos.  His were 3 for $10 and mine were 3 for $8.  You have a choice of 2 tacos for less or 3, most taco places here the tacos you can eat in 2 bites, if I had known these were bigger I would have ordered 2.  I could barely finish my 3 tacos.  We will definitely be back!!!

Nona's Restobar - West End

Image
If you want a good deal then this is the place.  They have $5 specials.  I had 3 tacos and Greg had the wings (8) and french fries.  Mine came with a drink.  We went at 5pm and the no-see-ums were terrible.  I had to run out and get bug spray.  The wings had a lot of meat on them.  The tacos were steak with pico de gallo and onons on them.
